Be A Positive Disruptor

With community consultation and strategic planning being on leaders' radars, we’d like to provoke some thinking to support you and your boards, as you map out your deliberate actions for the next two terms ahead.

Is it a school leader's job to ask the school community for the next future focused school direction? Or is it the leader's job to “provide” the next future focused school direction?

Is your approach…

Consultation - obtaining feedback to inform the school board’s decision.

Involvement - working with participants throughout the decision-making process.

Collaboration - partnering with the school community to make a shared decision.

Provocation: To what extent does your school and community articulate a collective, future focused vision for teaching and learning for all ākonga?

Provocation: How well does the school culture support the next direction of your school?

Provocation: A vision statement describes what an organisation aspires to be.

How close are you already? What happens when you get there?

Provocation: The Wizard of Oz

“We must have the courage (the Lion) to see the obstacles before they arise. We must have heart (the Tin Man) and accept ownership of these challenges, even if they aren’t directly related to our work. We must have the wisdom (the Scarecrow) to solve these obstacles by finding solutions even when they aren’t visible at the moment. Finally, to have the willpower (Dorothy) to do and deliver the working solution”. Fostering Accountability on Your Team

To be a disruptor in today's world you really need to not be afraid to take a risk. Be passionate, be brave and set the direction that others want to copy.
